The project aims at improving knowledge of the distribution, mechanisms, activity and damage potentials of large, slow moving landslides in the alpine areas of Lombardia.
Project goals will be achieved through regional analyses of inventory geodatabases, long-term landslide activity and kinematics (by monitoring and dating), statistical analyses, and site-specific case studies (dating, monitoring, modelling, forecasting).
Deep-Seated Gravitational Slope Deformations (DSGSDs) and large slow-moving landslides:
- extremely widespread in the alpine and prealpine areas of Regione Lombardia;
- often active phenomena;
- complex mechanisms;
- affect directly or indirectly urban areas, facilities, roads, railways and pipelines;
- can be subjected to partial or total “slow to fast” evolution to catastrophic failure.
