WP5 – Damage potentials

Since the long-term evolution and complex mechanisms of large, slow rock slope instabilities hampers a rigorous assessment of related hazard and risk, we will evaluate the potential impacts of large landslides in terms of “damage potential”.
Damage potentials of large, slow-moving landslides will be assessed by combining the characterized inventory geodatabase with a geodatabase of elements at risk, collected from regional land use maps and specific databases of hydroelectric power plants and transportation infrastructures. We will define approaches to evaluate damage potentials related both to slow deformations and catastrophic failure. This allow a classification of large landslide in Lombardia useful to account for this phenomena and their potential evolution in landplanning and to support the selection of sites for local-scale studies.
